Grading
Each day students will be assessed based on participation, which is 80% of the grade. Participation can include attitude, attentiveness, and generally being engaged in the course and with other students. Each day students will earn from one to three points, whose general descriptions are as follows:
3 – Student is engaged in the course, playing games, listening to the instructor and displaying a positive attitude.
2 – For a 2, a student has shown her/himself to be distracted, messing around continuously but otherwise is participating.
1 – There is little to no participation and/or excessive disruption.
It is the hope of the instructor that Participation points are an easy 3 points each day. Reasons for less point include chronic slacking, inappropriate discussion, any activity that causes discomfort in other students, and a general attitude that the student does not care to be in this course.
The remaining 20% of the grade are from the two final exams – one from the chess portion and the other from the sports portion. Exam questions could include demonstration of chess moves, definitions, demonstration of competency in the various sports taught, etc.
Objective
The objective of this course is to play games and sports, learn some new skills, and have fun!
