Course Overview

The goal of this class is to promote to each student a life-time commitment to staying active and physically fit. All students will be exposed to the tools and knowledge needed to be active for life. They will be introduced to a variety of activities and games, both traditional and non-traditional, in hope that they will find something that they enjoy and something that they will carry on with them after high school. These goals will be accomplished by improving their movement skills, movement knowledge, as well as their personal and social development.

Possible Units

Units may include: Badminton, Ultimate Frisbee, Takraw, Hockey, Golf, Softball, Line Dancing, Step Aerobics, Self-defense, Volleyball, Cooperative Games, Basketball, Fitness, Soccer, and Team Handball.

Four Domains of Learning

  1. Affective - participation, attitude, behavior, social qualities, self concept
  2. Cognitive - knowledge, understanding, problem solving, thinking
  3. Psychomotor - motor skills (goal setting)
  4. Health-related Fitness - the product of:
    • Flexibility
    • Body Composition
    • Cardiovascular Endurance
    • Muscle Strength and Endurance

How Grades are Computed
